What Doesn't Happen in a Year
i work with kids everyone knows that. Recently, i was watching a group of five year olds building this great block structure. It took quite a while to build. They were so proud and spent all afternoon rearranging cars and figures around the building. Eventually i began photographing their play; i felt as though i had a window into their souls. Their satisfaction was palatable. Just as i focused the camera on the heart of their construction another child recklessly plowed into it. The building they spent all day working on putting their hearts into was crushed in a second. As they stood devastated surround by the remnants of something they put their souls into i thought, "this is a metaphor about our state in life, we spend precious time building, lives, careers, homes relationships and one careless act can cause the whole thing to crumble. i guess the joy is in the building, planning, anticipating and working with others towards a common goal. The moral of this, enjoy each minute seize the moment live as though things could end any minute. What doesn't happen in a year will happen in a day.
